Been unemployed for the past few weeks. It's been splendidly wonderful. I've been baking bread and making soup and reading a lot, started a few paintings and taking the dog for long leisurely walks.

Unfortunately the dreams gotta end sometime and I start a new job tonight. The pay is good and the hours aren't too many so let's see if I can still live easy.

I guess I've had it with sitting on my ass most of the time, and around two years after I shut down my old line Anneimills Tees, I've decided to start a new brand up. I was planning on the designs for my first line to be mine and mine only, and then occasionally incorporate in other artists, but I've realized I have too many friends/contacts not to take advantage of the talent around me, so it looks like it'll be half mine half other designers at the first go. I'm not even going to tell you what it's called yet, but trust me, it's gonna be good. I'll be printing it all myself as well!

In other news, my friends at Pterodactyl have a whole new mess of adult art classes being offered in September. They're offering more than twice as many this time around and a wide range at that. I'll be taking the "Making Comics from Idea to Print" class, and my boss at Derisory Designs, Jeremy, will be teaching the screen printing class again. Here's the roster if you're interested. All Points West Festival

This past weekend I was lucky enough to be invited to come help peddle shirts with David from Sebei at All Points West, via Renegade Craft Fair. It was rainy, muddy, grey, drunk, and a ton of fun. Got a chance to see a bunch of artists I'd been wanting to see (The Black Keys, Gogol Bordello, Fleet Foxes to name a few of the many) as well as a groups I'd always like to see but probably wouldn't be motivated to catch (or pay for) on my own. Every act I saw definitely held it down, Jay-Z convinced me that he might be the smartest dude around opening with No Sleep Til Brooklyn and performing with a full horn section and one of the tightest bands I've seen in a minute. Being submerged in a crowd of thousands while they "throw their diamonds up" definitely confirms that dude is somewhere around deity level. Pretty bizarre and great to witness. I could spew a multitude of paragraphs about pretty much everyone I saw, but all you need to know is that I was more than happy to stand in ankle deep mud for all of them.

Onto the nitty gritty all that most attention spans will allow - pictures. I've never been on the staff(ish) end of something like this and it definitely had its perks, (being able to drive your car directly to the tent and deliver contraband items which you would otherwise have to pay $9 a cup for and stand in a designated "beer garden" area and not have any fun) but mostly seeing things get set up, and a completely empty park to eventually be filled with muddy awkwardly dancing white kids. I didn't bring my camera in the first day because I'm an idiot, though it was so grey and rainy I wouldn't have been able to get any decent pictures anyway. Day 2 turned out to be the only day with any significant amount of sun, and I managed to snap a few before all the patrons arrived.

Be sure to note the ankle deep mud puddles. This sculpturey thing was called the "Bamboo Sky Scraper"

This guy was called the "Braindrop" and lit up purple at night. You could spot some really cool 17 year old girls smoking cloves inside of it almost every time you walked by.

Reverse view! The city skyline never stopped existing as some weird landscape dichotomy, and I never got sick of looking at it.

This giant chinese lantern looking structures were referred to as "Dolab" on the map. I don't know anything about them as I didn't really read any of the literature, but they were cool to look at. Also notice some staff goofin off.

These balloons were definitely my favorite installation in the park. They stretched on forever (a bit too long for my lens to capture) and had blue lights on them that lit up at night. At the end of day 1 it looked like one of the anchors came loose so there was only one end attached to the ground as the other end stretched way out and over the park.

Also pretty bizarre to constantly turn around to see this lady's backside.

I can admit that I have been scolded for uh... hygienic issues, so talking about soap in my blog may seem highly uncharacteristic. But this lady had some bomb ass soaps as well as other products you put on your body. They all smelled good, to the point where if you use/wear them people will say, "hey, you smell good!" Check out her stuff.

So these dudes definitely kept me entertained for a lot of the weekend - all super nice and goofy, selling silly animal tees. It was great getting to hang with them. They had a big wooden giraffe which they brought to a bunch of the shows, and will be undoubtedly heavily featured on the APW dvd, since I'm not sure what else sticks out of a crowd of people then a giant wooden giraffe.

Last though not least, Jesse Kuhn of Raw Toast Design held down the booth next to us. Loved his work within the five seconds I strolled over to his booth, well executed but not without a sometimes whimsical sense of humor. Jesse's an exceedingly rad dude and was kind enough to let me choose a free print to bring home:

I'm gonna frame the hell out of it and hang it up.

Now to avoid making this post completely uninteresting, I'll give you some celebrity. Dave, Randi and I all went over to see Judah Friedlander.

I was very fortunate to be picked on by him during the show for martial arts reasons. Randi on the other hand, was obviously hit on. I figured it'd be a good opportunity to try and plug some shirts and we went up to talk to him after his set. Told him we were all big fans and to stop by the booth and get some swag, dude is extremely nice, came by, genuinely loved our tees and even got one for his mom. Maybe someday we'll see one on 30 Rock? Here's hoping!

Besides all of the above, catching all the bands and wading through mud, a large amount of t-shirt selling and tomfoolery ensued, as shown.

MORE BALLOONS!

Even if I did have a tripod with me, the mud wouldn't bode well. This was the best long exposure I could do freestanding. The little blue lights are attached to the balloons I was so obviously infatuated with. This was the last night, and the crowd was all watching MGMT. Biggest crowd I saw at Bullet Stage the whole weekend.

The last picture I took before packing up and shipping out. Needless to say it was a pretty epic weekend and I'd definitely, definitely do it again. Met some great people, ate some crappy food, drank whiskey and packed more live music into one weekend than I probably ever have in a year.

So I've been settling nicely into Philly and work has been great. It's good to be printing again, and even better to be doing it the right way, with you know, real equipment and stuff. Most of all though it's been nice to use my brain again. I've actually been doing a lot of marketing work - little things to get more web based business, researching businesses and organizations for more local business. Making promotional literature/visuals and the like as well. So I've been pretty all over the place with my actual "work," and I'm the in house designer too. And I spent most of the day yesterday calculating our new price list. Crazy stuff, with MATH. Yeah, lots of work, busy, challenging, good.

I've doing some more of my own stuff at home which I'll have to post. Finishing up a good collab this week.

I'll have to post some some pictures of our space at Derisory, it's pretty cool. We're going to have some adult art classes here in a few weeks, screen printing, (which I'll be around for) sewing and photography. They're SUPER cheap ($160 for 8 weeks) and start the 22nd. They're being offered through Pterodactyl (you can actually see some pictures of our space before it was finished) which is run by our friends at Fireball Printing, who we share the space with. I'm moving to Philadelphia Saturday morning, man. Packing sucks. Packing is one of the worst experience, it's almost worse than the SATs, but not worse because you can listen to Harry Potter audiobooks and drink beer while you do it. Actually packing is alright.

Got a pretty sweet place on S. 16th street, very excited to move in. Three bathrooms! Two room mates! The possibilities are endless.

Anyway, I guess I am feeling super nostalgic as entering a new phase of one's life will, so I'm uploading my high school portfolio to flickr. Wasn't THAT long ago. Feels like it though. I always really enjoy seeing peoples super old work, (in supplement to what they do now) I figure at least 1 out of 10 people will enjoy looking at it. I mean at the least it's cute, come on. Right now I only have the photography up, I'll probably put the rest up tomorrow.

Chicago & Philadelphia

So last week I went to Chicago to visit my good friend Mickey and celebrate our birthday, (yea, same birthday) and to just go to Chicago since I've never been there. Great city, probably will live there sometime in the future. It's on my list of cities to live in. Mickey lives in Wicker Park so I was definitely in a great place to stay. Did some fun touristy stuff, saw the bean, did some museums, ate some pizza, ya know.

There was an awesome Buckminster Fuller exhibition at the MCA too, which was a great surprise. Dude was a wizard, basically.

In biiiiiigger news, I'm moving to Philadelphia (south philly) at the end of the month. I'll be taking up employment at Derisory Designs printing tshirts and... prints, and other stuff. So if you need some shirts, or really anything that can be printed, hit me up.

Also I'm just going to stop talking about future posts in this blog, since they never happen. So yeah, giving up on blog promises.

New design for Flood of Red

Old design, cleaned it up put a band name in at the behest of James at SuperVision Mgmt. Some Scottish blokes called Flood of Red. They ended up going with a white tee and just one print of the jelly fish in bright blue, but I liked this mock best.

So it looks like I'm not productive enough for this to be a regular art blog thing. I actually have been working, but I don't want to post any designs until they've been accepted or whatever. Got a few new jobs in the past week or so, awesome. Have some contest stuff coming up too.

Goin to Chicago April 7th -12th for a big birthday party (for me) with mostly strangers. It will be good I am excited!

I don't drink fruity beer a lot but goddamned if this shit ain't too delicious.

Calling all Bears

So it seems everyone and their mom has that Bear shirt. I would love to have a photograph collection of anybody and everybody who owns the shirt in it, (it is a strange and narcissistic joy) but specifically, I want to see bears. Bears in the bear shirt. Bears in bears. So if you are a bear, and you wear this bear shirt. Let me know. Cause it makes me happy. Or if you know a bear, buy him this shirt and take a picture of him in it and send it to me.

My good friend Kevin Kelly Kenkel was kind enough to provide me with this picture through his facebook stalking, (assumably) and I trust he will be a great resource for further bear pics in the future. Now I hope my blog comes up when people google "bear pics" or "bears in bears."

Dear guy in this picture, I'm glad you like my shirt, but if you're not glad that I put up a picture of you in my shirt on my blog, I'm sorry, to you, guy in this picture, from me. So I was playing around with the new stuff on the DBH website, and viewed the shirts sorted by popularity "since the beginning." For the dudes it looks like Bear Hugs is the 6th most popular design for guys, and the 7th for women. On the whole site, out of over 240 designs! Rad rad rad.

Design by Humans totally revamped their site today, which has definitely been a long time comin. The old interface was pretty frustrating, plus the new design looks loads better, cleaner, and is more intuitive. Just overall more eye catching. But it's causing some internets dramas since it strikes such a loud, garish chord with Emptees. Ah well, at least it looks loads better and is more functional.

Plus awesome new product shots of the designs I already had on there! They're both sold out in most sizes at the moment as well. Maybe I will get some residuals soon? Maybe?

The bear is only available in mens S & 2X and women's L & XL and the deer is currently completely sold out in mens, only available in xl for womens at the moment. Reprint soon hopefully!

Also had a job interview today, first time I've ever walked away from an interview and wasn't 100% sure that I did or didn't get the job. It was just at a cute little cafe near my apartment in JP with gnarly sandwiches and local art, but seems like it'd be a fun place to work: Ula Café.

I also got a new car, an old '92 lexus sedan. I'm pretty in love with it for being old and brown.

I have been test driving cars today. It is fun. I am going to have a shiny new car, I'm pretty damn sure.

I'm gonna start uploading some old stuff on here til I can get back to Boston and scan what's been goin on in my sketchbook, and also have my camera to take decent pictures of the paintings(/series?) I've been working on.

Here is a self portrait I did December of last year. I thought I had a higher res of it, but apparently I'm always wrong. It's around 3'x3' and actually is all jagged like that on the top where I cut it with a bread knife. Dunno why.

I guess in order to post my artings, sketches, etc. I think that's what the kids are doing these days. I think I'll upload some old stuff as well. If I feel like it. So don't pressure me. Also I will definitely just be writing things from my brain, cause I tend to get some thoughts or rants or complaints or witticisms bouncin around in there from time to time.

I kind of wish I had chose a less narcissistic handle to start internet-getting my name out there. Instead of googling myself once I have to do it three times.

I think if I have something I'm supposed to update it might lead to further productivity. We'll see!
